Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra's Performance at China Harbin Summer Festival 36th Edition

Under the baton of resident conductor, Mr. Ouyang Wangjian, the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra performed a unique concert for the 36th China Harbin Summer Festival on Tuesday night, bringing together original Chinese symphonic compositions in a vibrant display of musical artistry.

A highlight of this remarkable concert was Yu Wan Piao Xiang Delicious Meal From Jade Bowl, an evocative one-movement piece by Wu Na that pays homage to Zhejiang cuisinethe culinary tradition among the eight great cuisines of China. The second piece, M Pulse composed by Zhao Guang and commissioned by the orchestra in celebration of the cultural milestones of the Song Dynasty 960-1279, further showcased the rich heritage and artistic prowess.

The final two compositions included Above the Great Tide by Wang Danhonga masterful recounting of Zhejiang's historical narrative interwoven with its modern realityand Qiantang River in the Warm Spring by Zhou Xianglin, inspired by the province's natural beauty and the resilience of its people. Zhou's composition marked a new piece commissioned by the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, seamlessly bling elements of nature with experience.

This concert was also part of an ongoing series titled National Excellent Symphonic Works Performance which began on August 7th. It featured 14 orchestras from across China performing their original compositions in Harbin, further enriching cultural exchanges and showcasing the diversity of Chinese music traditions.

The event successfully united musicians, audiences, and art lovers under a common platform for cultural appreciation and celebration.

Wang Danhong’s composition Above the Great Tide narrated Zhejiang's historical narrative alongside its current reality, creating an woven into music. Zhou Xianglin’s Qiantang River was a testament to nature and spirit, inspired by the province's landscapes and the hardworking people behind them.

This performance was not just a concert; it was part of the National Excellent Symphonic Works Performance series that began on August 7th. This year-long event brought together 14 orchestras from across China, each bringing their original compositions to Harbin for an exchange of cultural ideas and artistic expressions, highlighting the diversity and depth of Chinese symphonic traditions.
