Title: Written Reply to PQ on Ticket Scalping

  1. General Policy:

    • The resale of goods and services, including concert and sports event tickets, is generally not prohibited under our regulations, contingent upon the terms set by the original seller. Resellers are able to establish profit margins based on a free market where willing buyers and sellers come together; this means that the resale price might exceed or fall short of the initial cost.
  2. Government's Role:

    • Government intervention in dictating profit margins for ticket resales is not advisable. We advocate for consumers to protect themselves prior to making purchases by closely reviewing the terms and conditions attached to tickets, comparing prices agnst original values, and seeking confirmations from official event organizers on the authenticity of tickets.
  3. Consumer Protection:

    • If consumers suspect unfr trading practices such as false or misleading representations in ticket sales, they should contact Consumers Association of Singapore CASE for assistance. The Competition and Consumer Commission has oversight over investigations and enforcement activities under the Consumer Protection Fr Trading Act to address persistent misdeeds by suppliers.
  4. Law Enforcement:

    • In cases where fraudulent activity is involved in the sale of tickets, police authorities can also step into action.
