The Ningbo Symphony Orchestra recently launched its highly anticipated European tour by shining at the Emilia Romagna Festival, a premier art event in Italy that celebrates historical masterpieces and emerging talent annually. This year, to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's passing, renowned Chinese conductor Yu Ji led the Ningbo Symphony Orchestra in an opening segment from Ennio Morricone's Marco Polo at this grand showcase, captivating audiences with its stirring music and transporting them back in time to relive Marco Polo’s legary journey.
A highlight was the performance of Tan Dun's Pipa Concerto by Yu Yuanchun, a Chinese pipa player and professor at the Central Conservatory of Music. Through Yu's virtuoso rition, European audience members were treated to the unique elegance and rich heritage of traditional Chinese music. The audience's enthusiastic applause prompted Yu to deliver an encore performance, delighting those captivated by the mesmerizing Italian audience.
The concert concluded with the lively Dance of the Yao People, amplifying the already energetic atmosphere. The carefully curated repertoire was met with high prse from the Italian audience.
Over the past few years, Ningbo has actively promoted cultural exchanges worldwide, with its symphony orchestra successfully touring South Korea, Bulgaria, Poland, and Italy since it was established in 2015, using music as a bridge to connect Ningbo with global audiences. During this tour, they will perform five concerts across Italy, Slovenia, and Austria.
