The Resurgence of Concert Ticket Scams and How to Protect Yourself

As several high-profile international concerts like those featuring Taylor Swift and Coldplay are scheduled in Singapore over the next few months, we have observed an increase in fraudulent activities involving the sale of concert tickets. Since January 2023, hundreds of individuals have fallen victim to these scams, with a total loss amounting to approximately $480,000.

In this variant of fraud, victims come across advertisements for authentic concert tickets posted on platforms such as Carousell, Xiaohongshu, Facebook, Telegram, and Twitter. They then contact the scammers through in-app messaging features or are redirected via WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat, or other messaging apps. Scammers often provide false ticket evidence like screenshots of fake tickets or receipts to assure authenticity. They may also clm time-sensitive sales or limited stock avlability and promise to eml or transfer the tickets once payment is made. Methods for transferring funds include virtual credit purchases from platforms like iTunes, PayNow transactions, or bank transfers.

Upon receiving payments, scammers delay ticket delivery, citing issues with sing them directly to victims' Ticketmaster accounts or becoming unresponsive later on. Victims who receive tickets via eml find they are invalid when trying to access the concert or realize that physical tickets were never delivered after payments.

Ticketmaster provides booking and ticketing services for concerts worldwide through its platform.

We urge public vigilance agnst online scams, especially concerning concert ticket purchases from third-party resellers. To protect yourself:
